This is a great phone, purchased mine in Moscow and love it, as a marine engineer my phone gets a hard time and has been dropped into bilges fill of salt water and oil with no problem afterwards, make sure charging and headphone seals are tight in place, fantastic camera and even use the air quality detector in engine rooms to check for exhaust leaks.
If I lose or stuff this one will buy the same again.
Make sure you get the extra soft protector for the back and screen protector to.

Hi Paul, and thanks for your subsequent call confirming you bought that phone elsewhere, not from the Outdoor Phone Store. Although we’ve canvassed the issues privately I think your original comment here is useful in educating the wider public about the importance of getting damage seen to at the earliest opportunity. The engineering in a rugged phone is directed at the most vulnerable and exposed areas, like the screen and corners. The central aim is to keep the phone functional, until repairs if necessary can be carried out. These phones are waterproof, but a logical precondition of watertightness is a completely intact casing: just like a bucket with a hole in it won’t hold water, a waterproof phone with a crack in it won’t keep the water out.

Had you sought our advice when you broke the camera lens cover we would have directed you to the warning on page 9 of the AGM owner’s manual which states “Stop using your device if part of the device is cracked, broken….”

The camera lens covers are not made of toughened Gorilla glass because they are so small it would take a freak accident involving significant bad luck – like sticking your finger through it. Instead, AGM makes available replacement lens covers and in fact replacement back covers so the device can be quickly repaired if the waterproof case is broken. Had you been an Outdoor Phone Store customer we could have rapidly fixed it for you at a minimal cost.

Unfortunately because waterproof phones are designed NOT to “breathe”, sticking them in a bowl of rice or the hot water cupboard won’t work because once a volume of water is inside a waterproof phone it cannot easily evaporate away….the phone has to be immediately unscrewed and opened up before trying the usual remedies.

The AGM is a great phone, but it is still vulnerable to freak accidents that the US military don’t test for.

I loved the phone from the marketing, just what I needed I thought as a contractor out in the weather and mud. I had this rugged phone 2 days before my finger broke the lens cover while picking it up from one end. I was annoyed but figured it would still work ok. Couple of months later I dropped it into a puddle around 300mm deep and pulled it out again within 2 minutes…. The lens cover did matter, the screen is stuffed, gone white and won’t dry out despite all the tricks I’ve tried from google. Rugged must mean something different to us Kiwis, and mil spec? Fraid not.
